QA Lab Engineer with a specialized focus on Nickel Release Testing for our eyewear manufacturing quality team. This role is critical to ensuring product compliance with international standards such as EN and REACH regulations. The QA Lab Engineer will be responsible for testing metal components of frames and parts for nickel release, interpreting test results, and supporting the quality assurance process to ensure consumer safety and product compliance.

 

My day at EssilorLuxottica

  • Perform Nickel Release Testing on eyewear metal components following EN 16128 or relevant global standards.
  • Operate laboratory equipment including Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) or ICP-OES for nickel detection and quantification.
  • Analyze results, interpret data, and compare against regulatory limits to ensure compliance.
  • Document test results, maintain laboratory records, and prepare reports for internal quality reviews and audits.
  • Investigate and report non-conforming results, working with the quality and production teams to address root causes and corrective actions.
  • Propose improvements to testing protocols, equipment upgrades, or lab processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and new testing methodologies related to nickel release and heavy metals in eyewear.
  • Perform incoming material inspection/testing when required.

 

Must have

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a quality or laboratory role, preferably in eyewear, fashion accessories, or medical devices involving metal components.
  • Proficient in laboratory equipment use, especially AAS, ICP-OES, or equivalent testing instruments.
  • Strong English skills, Able to write clear reports and communicate with international teams.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and reporting systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle urgent tasks, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Good knowledge of safety protocols when handling chemicals and lab equipment.
