GENERAL FUNCTION

The Litigation Counsel position will support all divisions of EssilorLuxottica’s North American business and manage a wide variety of commercial litigation in North America. This position will report to the Assistant General Counsel, Litigation.

POSITION DETAILS

  • Support in managing all phases of litigation for EssilorLuxottica’s North American business, including case management, motion practice oversight, implementation of legal holds, coordination of discovery, coordination of insurance coverage, and settlement support across a variety of subject matters such as commercial, general liability, professional liability, product liability, real estate, collections, and construction disputes.
  • Analyze legal risks and obligations and prepare written assessments and recommendations regarding litigated and pre-litigation matters providing clear, practical advice to clients regarding exposure, strategy and resolution options.
  • Draft and respond to demand letters, subpoenas, attorney-general inquiries, and other dispute-related correspondence.
  • Identify potential litigation risks and trends and counsel on how to mitigate exposure.
  • Support discovery processes, including eDiscovery coordination, document review and strategy, and compliance with preservation obligations.
  • Assist in the administration of the legal recovery program, including identifying recovery opportunities, supervising recovery applications, and tracking recoveries.
  • Assist in the selection, engagement, and oversight of outside counsel, including monitoring budgeting, reviewing invoices, and tracking spend.
  • Serve as liaison between outside counsel and clients to ensure effective and efficient representation of the Company.
  • Supervise work of litigation paralegals and law clerk.
  • Support the overall day-to-day general functions and strategic initiatives of the Litigation Team.

 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • JD from an accredited law school and excellent academic background
  • Licensed to practice law in Ohio or another state
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with a private law firm or corporate legal department (or a combination thereof) in commercial litigation
  • Superior writing, communication, and research skills
  • Organized and detail oriented with strong project management skills
  • Ability to interact with all levels and all lines of business and clients
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a legal team
  • Ability to adapt to constantly shifting priorities, and allocate resources appropriately
  • Experience with eDiscovery processes and tools

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • International experience
  • Retail or consumer-facing industry experience
