Your role:
Within the Instruments Division of EssilorLuxottica in Greater Paris, the Computational Instrumentation Research Engineer will join the Scientific Department, under the responsibility of the Head of Instrumentation Studies. They will join a team responsible for delivering innovations in optical instrumentation for eye care professionals.
The role includes optical simulations and developments, statistical modeling, and scientific programming (including machine learning and high performance computing) for novel instrumentation projects at the forefront of clinical research, with an awareness of all relevant instrumentation aspects (including image and data processing algorithms), and future growth opportunities in clinical innovation.
The candidate will be actively involved in verifying critical functions and reporting results in accordance with scientific and technical good practice with clinical trials in mind.
Main responsibilities:

Design and implementation of optical signal processing algorithms (including machine learning and high performance computing) for ophthalmic instrument design.

Optical simulations and development.
-
Scientific and technical reporting for clinical trial documentation.

Reporting and scientific communication.

Contributions to the Intellectual Property portfolio.

Monitor/anticipate the trends in our field.

Scouting for new technologies for future products opportunities.
Main requirements:
Mandatory
-
Very strong scientific programming and algorithmic skills for computer vision applications, including uncertainty modeling of physical systems and machine learning.
-
Good understanding of physical sensors (especially imaging sensors), quantitatively modeling their behavior, and using them for computational imaging applications.

Very good proficiency with modern programming languages (Python, C++, Rust...) using best practices for software development.

Solid background in fundamental mathematics, physics, and physical optics.
Important

Strong GPU programming skills for high performance scientific computing and low-level image processing.

Willingness to learn computer-aided optical design.

Strong experience in research instrumentation in the private (R&D) or public sector.
Optional

Experience with laser sources and other optoelectronic instrumentation.

At least 2 years of experience in international settings (education and/or work).

Strong appetite for novel optical technology at the forefront of research.

Curious and eager to learn & grow.

Interested in making a difference in healthcare.
Educational Background:
-
Major in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or equivalent.

Specialization in image processing / computer vision.
-
At least 8 years of research (or similar R&D work experience) in Computational Instrumentation and Scientific Programming for optical imaging applications.
