A Facilities Engineer works within the context of keeping an organization’s physical environment safe, reliable, and cost‑effective. They operate at the intersection of engineering, operations, and compliance, ensuring that buildings and infrastructure support the company’s core activities without interruption. Their role is especially critical in industries like manufacturing, healthcare, and commercial real estate, where downtime or unsafe conditions can have serious financial or human consequences.

• Cost vs. Quality: Pressure to reduce expenses while maintaining high standards of safety and reliability.

• Aging Infrastructure: Many facilities rely on outdated systems that require constant upkeep or modernization.

• Regulatory Complexity: Navigating evolving building codes, environmental laws, and safety standards.

• Technology Integration: Adapting to smart building systems, automation, and digital monitoring tools.

• Emergency Preparedness: Responding quickly to breakdowns or crises to minimize disruption.

Your Role:

Preventive Maintenance & Asset Management – Planning and implementing maintenance schedules, using predictive technologies to prevent equipment failures, and managing asset lifecycles to minimize downtime and costs.

System Monitoring & Troubleshooting – Continuously monitoring facility systems, responding promptly to equipment issues, and conducting root cause analysis to prevent recurring problems.

Safety & Compliance – Ensuring compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards through regular inspections, audits, and proper documentation.

Project Management & Facility Upgrades – Leading infrastructure improvement projects, managing budgets and timelines, and integrating new technologies to enhance facility performance.

Energy & Sustainability Management – Driving energy-efficiency initiatives, implementing sustainability programs, and supporting corporate environmental goals.

Vendor & Contractor Management – Coordinating and overseeing external service providers, managing contracts, and ensuring quality work and service delivery.

Documentation & Reporting – Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, system performance, compliance requirements, and providing performance reports to management.

Emergency Response & Risk Management – Managing facility emergencies, developing contingency plans, training employees on emergency procedures, and ensuring business continuity during critical situations.

A Portrait of a Perfect Candidate:

Professional Competencies:

• Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems

• Familiarity with building codes, fire safety standards, and environmental regulations

• Project management skills for planning, budgeting, and overseeing facility upgrades

• Analytical and problem‑solving ability for diagnosing and resolving system issues

• Effective communication and collaboration with contractors, vendors, and internal teams

• Focus on sustainability and efficiency, including energy management and green practices

• Emergency preparedness and risk management skills

• Digital competence with building automation systems, CAD software, and maintenance tools

• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Specific Experience

• 5+ years in facilities maintenance or engineering, preferably in precision manufacturing. 

• Experience with HVAC, compressed air, cooling, and water treatment systems.

• Familiarity with ISO quality standards and regulatory compliance.

• Proven ability to manage preventive maintenance programs and capital projects.

• Background in contractor oversight and project delivery.
