GENERAL FUNCTION
The Engineering Director manages and directs engineering resources for North America built around implementation of new products, processes, technologies, operational sustainment, industrialization, and continuous improvement for multi-site environment. Partners with all engineering disciplines, manufacturing, maintenance, sourcing, finance, training, and quality assurance on key iniatives and operational improvement. Executes on design and implementation of systems and controls to meet corporate and facility operational metrics on quality, service, cost and productivity.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides technical leadership, direction, and guidance on improvement of existing technology, processes, and equipment reliability to support capacity, capability, and improvements to deliver service and quality results for the North America manufacturing network.
- Responsible for the implementation of tools, systems, and technology to maintain and improve existing operations.
- Provides technical leadership for day to day support of manufacturing and translates technical knowledge to functional groups and training requirements.
- Leverages lean tools, including value stream mapping, to improve overall manufacturing cycle time and WIP reduction.
- Provides support and leadership for the validation of products, equipment, consumables and other process parameters or changes leading to operational and quality improvement.
- Provides leadership and guidance to support standardization of processes and materials across the manufacturing sites.
- Supports finance and manufacturing with engineering standards for labor and equipment.
- Partners with quality to develop quality control plans required to sustain operation and deliver product results.
- Develops and directs procedures and methods to ensure quality standards are met and maintained.
- Provides engineering expertise in the areas of tooling, specifications, maintenance, and raw materials throughout the organization.
- Builds, develops and manages engineering team capable of effectively executing equipment validations, new product introductions, operational support and improvements.
- Key metrics focused on operational yields, WIP, productivity,equipment downtime, etc.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in engineering
- 10+ years in a manufacturing environment
- 8+ years in managing an engineering organization
- Experience in lean manufacturing tools and continuous improvement
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills (both quantitative and qualitative)
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Advanced interpersonal skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively and maintain credibility across all levels in the business
- Experience with project management, with expertise in managing a full project portfolio
- Constraint-based (bottleneck) skills and experience
