Your role
We are looking for a motivated student to carry out a thesis project focused on the correlation between numerical simulation and real process behavior, specifically comparing particle-based DEM simulations with experimental tumbling (barrel finishing) tests.
The candidate will support the Engineering team in both simulation activities and experimental trials.
Main responsibilities:
-
Perform numerical simulations using dedicated software for particle-based modeling (DEM).
-
Analyze and measure the correlation between simulation results and real process outcomes.
-
Model abrasive media and interaction mechanisms within the tumbling process.
-
Conduct experimental tests using abrasive media in a transparent tumbling barrel to observe real behavior.
-
Compare and evaluate morphological and topographical performance between simulated and experimental results.
-
Support data collection, analysis, and technical reporting related to the thesis project.
Main requirements:
-
Educational background in Mechanical, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering.
-
Knowledge of numerical simulation tools, with focus on FEM and/or 3D modeling; DEM knowledge is a strong plus.
-
Basic understanding of manufacturing or surface finishing processes.
-
Ability to work in a production environment and interact with shop-floor personnel.
-
Analytical mindset and interest in experimental validation of simulation models.
-
Good communication skills and willingness to collaborate with the engineering team.
