GENERAL FUNCTION

The Sr. 3D Concept Modeler utilizes 3D software to produce high quality data models for new products, within a given timeline and based on complexity.  Collaborating with cross functional teams including designers and engineers, the Sr. Modeler is also able to create production-level prototypes for executive and chairman reviews.  Projects may be of a highly complex nature and require a highly iterative approach, as well as agility to adapt priorities and approaches quickly to ensure optimal and timely results.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates closely with the 3D Design Manager to ensure delivery of high-visibility prototypes
  • Captures Designer’s intent utilizing sketches, scans, product definitions and various inputs from R&D and engineering teams
  • Produces high quality 3D data for performance products with consideration to fit, function, quality and testing requirements. Data must export as surfaces.
  • Incorporates aspects of tooling, manufacturing and assembly per engineering direction
  • Works in close collaboration with creative designers, directors, CAD modelers, design engineering and R&D
  • Produces multiple iterations and rapid prototypes, while maintaining project deadlines.
  • Actively participates in technical and aesthetic problem solving discussions
  • Provides guidance, mentorship and assistance to other modelers on the team
  • Proactively recommends process efficiencies, best practices, and cutting-edge technology enhancements to Manager, 3D Design
  • Uses basic traditional hand modeling techniques- mold making, painting and sculpting when needed
  • Other duties and responsibilities.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or related Degree
  • 5+ years of 3D modeling/3D artist experience in consumer product, automotive, toy or CG industries using either Alias, Rhino, MODO, SolidWorks and/or Creo
  • Must be extremely willing and able to adapt to change with swift efficiency
  • Strong time management skills with good planning and judgment to accomplishing goals within challenging deadlines, at times, working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • High degree of creativity and originality
  • Experience in working within a cross-functional team environment
  • Self starter, self motivated
  • Able to complete project goals with minimal supervision with high attention to details and quality of work
  • Strong analytics, interpersonal and communication skills including verbal, written, and digital presentations
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Intuitive understanding of 3D visualization and the ability to sense scale and materials

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Eyewear and optics knowledge
  • Knowledge of machine shop tools and equipment (lathe, band saw, table saw, drill press, etc.)
  • Knowledge of plastics engineering and materials for injection molded parts
  • Experience in ZBrush, Maya, Grasshopper and/or KeyShot
  • Portfolio that demonstrates proficiency in 3D files and traditional hand modeling skills

​Pay Range: 102,297.68  - 127112.15 

 

Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills and local minimum wage requirements. In addition, you may also be offered a competitive bonus and/or commission plan, which complements a first-class total rewards package.
