Your role

 

Within our R&D department, the R&D studies manager will be part of Light Management and coatings department, a multidisciplinary team who is in charge of designing and developing the new coatings (such as antireflective coatings, antismudge coatings,…) for EssilorLuxottica new products like Crizal products.

 

The R&D studies manager prepares and manages the first phases of technical conception and will:

 

  • Identify and develop promising technical bricks that will support our coatings superiority and differentiation on the ophthalmic market

 

  • Carry out technical studies to bring upstream concepts to a sufficient level of maturity to be transferred to the Thin Film New Product Team for further industrial validation. 

 

  • Develop and share an expertise in the field of coatings and surface functionalization, including materials, processes and characterization methodologies.

 


Main responsibilities:

 

  • Lead studies in the field of coatings and surface functionalization and coordinate the internal and external resources,
  • Define innovative concepts through materials and processes optimization.
  • Characterize concepts properties and performances with a relevant methodology
  • Analyze and synthesize results and/or risks to the team and managers
  • Create and promote a good communication inside overall team
  • Develop in-depth knowledge in the field of thin film coatings and surface functionalization
  • Explore disruptive and sustainable technical bricks (scientific papers, participation in conferences, trade fairs, ...)
  • Improve methodologies to better anticipate concepts performances and contribute to internal knowledge enhancement
  • Monitor competitor patents, draft memos for patent applications and interact with IP department

 

Main requirements:

  • Educational Background: PhD, Master of science or Engineering in Physics, Physico-Chemistry or Material Science,
  • First experience in thin film deposition processes and characterization techniques and/or surface properties,
  • Knowledge of surface science and functionalization (hydrophobic and hydrophilic materials, wettability properties, photocatalytic surfaces, …) is a plus
  • Ability to consider consumer needs (Opticians and Lenses wearers) and translate them into innovation,
  • Strong interpersonal skills: good communication skills, collaborative work, problem-solving mindset
  • Experience and willigness to work in a lab environment
  • Fluency in French and English is mandatory.
